Community Partner: May We Help
May We Help is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving independence for individuals with disabilities. It uses donated equipment and toys combined with the time, effort, and skills of volunteers to provide items tailored to individual needs.
May We Help has three main programs:
- Equipment Swap: Donated equipment is repaired and provided free of charge during equipment swap days. Volunteer physical therapists and skilled volunteers are present in the workshop to help individuals find the right equipment and make adjustments for a proper fit.
- Custom Solutions: Volunteers work directly with individuals to design, build, and deliver customized solutions for challenges that cannot be addressed with commercially available equipment.
- Adapted Toys: Donated toys, especially ride-on cars, are modified to be accessible to children with disabilities (for example, replacing a pedal with a switch for children who have limited fine motor skills).
May We Help helps make everyday activities more accessible, empowering individuals with disabilities to participate more fully and independently.
About Sophia

While I am originally from Indianapolis, Cincinnati has felt like my hometown since I was a kid. My mom grew up here, and my parents would bring my siblings and I here for every holiday, birthday, and many weekends to visit with our relatives. I attended college at the Ohio State University with a major in biology and minors in Spanish and Entomology. I took two gap years before starting medical school, during which I traveled and worked as a patient transporter.
Since beginning medical school, I have been very interested in primary care and will be applying to family medicine residencies this year. I love the longitudinal relationships and the community involvement that are so important in family medicine. I chose to take this service elective because I want to learn more about how to be an advocate for my community; additionally, my goal is to stay in Cincinnati, and becoming more familiar with the resources and organizations available will be helpful when I am practicing medicine here in the future.
