Project updates:
Our IRB was approved! We are currently working on getting me scheduled for an Equitas orientation with HR so that I can get EPIC access and actually begin gathering data for my project. Currently, orientation is scheduled for Nov 10th and then I will be shadowing on Nov 18-19th to really get rolling on data collection for the impact of the Care Navigator role at Equitas. Excited to actually meet my team in person and start getting into things in November.
Project Updates October:
Our project recently received IRB approval and moved from planning to implementation. Since then, we have collected and written ten caregiver stories that highlight the lived experiences of families receiving care at Hopple Street Clinic. Each story offers insight into resilience, family dynamics, and the social context of pediatric health. Our team is now beginning preliminary qualitative analysis to identify key themes across these narratives. This process will help us tailor the next phase of the project to better meet the needs of both providers and families.
Alongside the narrative work, we developed a Likert scale survey to measure the impact of story writing on healthcare providers. The goal is to assess how reading and reflecting on caregiver stories influences provider empathy, communication, and understanding of social determinants of health. With data collection underway and analysis in progress, our focus is shifting toward refining the workflow and evaluating how this model of narrative medicine can be sustainably integrated into clinical practice.
Our project is moving along! We have a plan to roll out the survey before next clinic and are discussing the best way to incorporate previous clients into the current study. IRB has been approved as non-human research, we are researching literature for how to design the survey, and tapped into the organization for medical school free-clinics regarding up-to-date techniques and methods of researching our protocols.
I restarted my work at Graceworks day program to get refamiliarized with the individuals there. I have read through their ISPs to get a sense of which individuals would benefit most from the Tovertafel and what their forms of communication are. IRB just got approved so I am excited to start the project this upcoming November. Surveys for the participants and their caretakers have been written, consent forms drafted, and participants have been chosen.
