I finally spent some time this month at Equitas, which was really fun. I shadowed one of Care Navigators for two days to get a sense of what types of work he does. His activities will be what we write up as a business case for continuing funding for his role since a lot of language around GAC has been changing within the organization recently. It seems like we are going to go more of writing a grant application now for funding instead of bringing to Equitas leadership. We have a project team meeting next week prior to Thanksgiving, which I am looking forward to sharing some of my observations from this week. Seems like the output of the project is continuing to evolve!
Our narrative medicine project at Hopple has continued to move forward with strong momentum. With IRB approval secured, we have now collected a set of caregiver stories and completed an initial qualitative analysis that supported the submission of an abstract to PAS 2026. Throughout this process, we also refined our workflow, identifying strategies to streamline story gathering while maintaining depth, accuracy, and respect for each family’s voice. We are now preparing for the next phase of data collection and deeper analysis.
My community partner and I rolled out the official survey last week before Thanksgiving. Although widely what we anticipated, we have to make a few adjustments before the next clinic. We thoroughly believe the questions we are actively evaluating will benefit our clinic’s future longevity. The next objective to tackle involves the 1 month follow-up to new patients and sending the survey to existing clients.
I have continued working with Graceworks, although not much has been done for the project due to constraints with holidays and interviews. This month, we hosted a thanksgiving dinner for the clients!
November updates:
In November, I didn’t not have much time to work on the project. I did learn a lot about food sovereignty from other projects that I am working on but I did not spend dedicated time on the CAIN project. In december I will get ready for my two weeks of distributing the survey in January which will be the most intensive time of my project!
In November, I focused on my residency interviews and did not make significant progress on the project. I did some additional research on Needs Assessments and what kinds of questions should make it into my survey. I also volunteered at the CAIN Clinic.
