Community Partner: People Working Cooperatively
I am delighted to partner with a cornerstone organization in creating safe neighborhoods in Cincinnati. This collaboration with PWC and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital CLEAR program is an award-winning, healthy-housing initiative aimed at reducing home environment risks for pediatric patients with severe asthma. Specially trained professionals inspect homes to identify triggers in tandem with primary care doctors, school nurses, and the local health department to keep airways clear and reduce emergency room visits.
For more than fifty years, PWC has been strengthening our communities by providing critical home repairs, lead poisoning prevention, and accessibility modification services in an effort to help residents remain independent and healthy in their homes. PWC performs more than 8,000 services annually in more than 4,500 homes in southwestern Ohio, northern Kentucky and southeast Indiana.
About Soumya
Hello! My name is Soumya, it’s so nice to meet you. I grew up moving all around the country but settled in Cincinnati during high school and have stayed ever since. In 2023, I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences and minors in Public Health and Ecology & Evolution.
My journey in service and advocacy began young. From organizing the country’s largest high school student walkout against gun violence right here in town, to canvassing door to door around Clifton student housing, to representing the University of Cincinnati at national advocacy summits, I have always felt a profound connection to the diverse and deeply rich neighborhoods that my family calls home. These experiences advocating for my peers as a young person fostered my interest in pediatrics and public health. The wellbeing of children and adolescents are often overlooked, yet investment in their health indicates an investment in our society as a whole. The work I have done throughout all stages of my education and career supports equity, access, and education for young people and their families. I look forward to my career in pediatrics creating safe and healthy homes in this neighborhood we share.
