Benjamin Hood

Community Partner:

Benjamin is partnering with the Walnut Hills Area Council Health Committee along with Dr. Anna Goroncy and the TCH/UC Family Medicine residents working in the neighborhood. Together with these community members and the Geriatric medicine fellows at TCH/UC, he will start his project with developing a resiliency hub and emergency preparedness in our senior community members.

“The Walnut Hills Area Council was established in 1965 as the voice to represent the interests of the community. They are recognized by the City of Cincinnati as the representative entity for Walnut Hills.”

The mission of WHAC is “to provide a safe, stable, diverse community where we live, learn, work, pray, play and prosper together.” The vision of the organization is that “Walnut Hills will be a safe, healthy, attractive, educated, caring community with a sense of pride and respect for both individuals and community [whose] leaders will be strong, well organized and able to advocate for the rights of all citizens.” —wearewalnuthills.org

About Benjamin

Benjamin grew up in the Philadelphia suburb of Marlton, NJ before attending The Ohio State University for his undergraduate degree in neuroscience. He spent a year between his undergraduate and medical education working as a PCA in the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, OH as well as serving the Columbus community through work in a free clinic and at a local assisted living community.

Benjamin will be applying to Family Medicine-Psychiatry and Family Medicine residencies and plans to practice integrated psychiatry and primary care in the community. He chose this elective following his positive experiences with service and advocacy education at UCCOM through his Learning Community and his work on homeless health initiatives with the Urban Health Project. Seeing the direct impact on his community even as a second-year medical student inspired him to pursue further service- and advocacy-related electives in preparation for his career.
