Community Partner: UC Student Run Free Clinic at The Healing Center
The University of Cincinnati Student Run Free Clinic is the newest of the COMs free clinics. It began in 2016 as an LC project, and operations were launched in 2019. The mission of the SRFC is to provide uninsured patients in the Springdale and Greater Cincinnati area with free access to healthcare. The SRFC is a collaboration amongst medical and pharmacy students, and student leaders from both schools work together to operate the clinic, expand services, and improve patient care.
Clinic services primarily include acute care visits and free health screenings, however the clinic continues to grow each year. Over the last two years the clinic has implemented a biannual head and neck cancer screening initiatives, partnered with Bearcat Eye Service to offer ophthalmology services, and implemented point of care lab testing. Moving forward the clinic is hoping to continue expanding lab services, integrate an EMR, and provide more longitudinal primary care services for its patients.
About Hem
I was born and raised right here in Cincinnati and completed my undergraduate degree in medical sciences here at the University of Cincinnati. Growing up, I spent a year in India and a year in Zambia going to school, which ultimately sparked my interest in public and global health. I’ve been involved with the SRFC since undergrad, and I chose to be a part of this elective to both continue working with the clinic and its community, while also developing skills in advocacy that I can use in my career. I will be applying to Internal Medicine residency this fall.
