This month, my community partner and I have concentrated on establishing a structured research protocol and preparing the IRB submission. Alongside this work, we have been active in the clinic, collaborating with colleagues such as CCHMC residents in the Service and Advocacy Pathway. We also conducted several sample interviews to refine our methods and resolve logistical challenges, which has allowed us to strengthen the overall process. With these steps in place, we anticipate beginning formal data collection next month.
This month has been spent cutting down our survey questions to a reasonable amount. How can we balance obtaining enough data but not fatigue clients in the process? My community partner and I have also reviewed my data summary and reviewed the IRB for submission. Meanwhile our clinic has been running and we are set to begin collecting data in the coming months.
This month I drafted an IRB. I am still trying to work out with my community partner exactly what order we will be doing our surveys in and trying to figure out what a true assessment of food sovereignty looks like. I am still struggling with exactly how to implement this idea in the setting of our pantry and hoping that working with our community partner can refine this more, however we have been struggling to find a good face-to-face time to talk about this when I have been doing AI/ICE rotations back to back since we became M4s. Fingers are crossed that all of that rush can slow down soon!
In September, my community partner, admin at Graceworks, and I finalized the IRB application. We also tried reaching out to our liaison to the Tovertafel without luck. I will have to scour their website to see who else we could reach out to. But otherwise, we are moving forward with getting a list of participants and contact information for guardian consent, making a survey for gathering data, and getting ready for my return to the program in Nov.
Met with Taft Clubhouse Director to finalized project details and discuss methods for execution. Working on the IRB application as well. Decided possible dates and participating grades. Meanwhile I have been volunteering at the Taft Clubhouse as well
In September, I finalized my project planning so that I could complete the IRB. I was able to think through the specific people, tangible items, and other resources I would need to implement the project. I decided on an incentive for guests participating in the survey, and Laci at CAIN was able to confirm that CAIN is willing to contribute 8 $25 Kroger gift cards to raffle off for the survey participants. I am so grateful that CAIN is able and willing to support the project in this way!
